Sideways Inn was recently mentioned as the place to stay in Playa Vista Magazine’s ” Life After Andersen’s: Buellton is so much more than split pea soup”.
Because this small city in Santa Barbara County is at the crossroads of U.S. Route 101 and State Route 246, Buellton earned the nickname of Service Town, USA. Travelers can rest their weary heads at more recognizable names or opt for the local flavor of Sideways Inn. The hotel was a Days Inn motel when “Sideways” was filmed, but it has since been transformed into a boutique hotel with upgraded amenities and facilities that honor the history of the Santa Ynez Valley and its role in wine country.
The lobby resembles an old-world windmill, presumably as a nod to Buellton’s neighbor, the Danish-inspired town of Solvang. Each morning, guests are treated to coffee and a complimentary doughnut from Drover’s, the favorite bakery in the Santa Ynez Valley. The history of the Valley and spirit of the Wild West are captured in photographs, courtesy of the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Society, on the walls in the rooms and around the property.
